Think this stuff is ineffective? Think the United States government isn’t serious about solving our nutrition and physical activity problems?
It takes a village, but the government is certainly an integral part of the village.
What do you think the role of government should be in solving these problems?
I see an effective future for gardens in schools that children help plan and tend, neighborhood garden / growing projects (like rooftop and community gardens). How about you?

Kwame, my Roots & Shoots Jr. Volunteers & I have been selected & invited by the First Lady to visit the White House to tour the White House Kitchen Garden next month…BEYOND JAZZED to be part of her Getting kids active & healthy eating habits initiatives
For those of you that don’t know, Shawna has been involved with Roots and Shoots for a long time, and has been honored by none other than Dr. Goodall herself.
Shawna, that’s awesome! I love what they are doing so far and how they are approaching it.
As an aside, I talked a bit with Sam Kass last week, and was quite impressed with his level of understanding / comprehension of the issues facing us, and his commitment to solutions.
Keep it up, Shawna! So happy for the inspiration your kids will get next month, and hope they carry that with them for a lifetime.
Good afternoon Kwame and others. We took some time to check this out and look forward to reading more about how these garden growing projects have been effective at bringing communities together. Individuals who would like to eat well are in a better position to make that decision if they are part of a system that supports healthy eating, programs like the roots and shoots are a great start. Please continue to keep us posted.
Absolutely Brendan! As Sam and I agreed upon, demand is always married to access.
